Adolf Würth Saal, Kunsthalle Würth, Schwäbisch Hall
November 17, 2023 until January 21, 2024
Kunsthalle Würth was inaugurated in 2001 and is now in need of some renovations and technical adjustments, which is why the main exhibition area will be closed until spring 2024.
According to the Gospel of Matthew, astrologers from the East made their way to Jerusalem to pay homage and present gifts to the newborn King of Jews following the star of Bethlehem. Not only do these figures, also known as the magi and the three kings, play a fundamental part in christmas stories, they are also key figures in nativity scenes. In these scenes they usually appear as a group of three, accompanied by either a camel, a horse, or an elephant carrying gifts. The star shines upon the nativity scene in the stable, marking the miracle that has happened.
Edwin and Wilma Bucholz’s private collection was acquired by Würth in 2002. The Ulfert Buchholz Collection, named after the couple’s son who died at an early age, compromises over 700 cribs from over 130 countries on 5 different continents, collected over a period of 50 years.
This year’s displayed nativity scenes from the Würth Collection have a focus on the Christmas star and can be seen in the Adolf Würth Hall in the Kunsthalle Würth in Schwäbisch Hall, from November 17th 2023 until January 21st 2024
